Is ‘I personally witnessed’ a pleonasm?

The sentence: ‘Growing up I have witnessed Hungary’s political evolution from the immediate post-revolutionary period to seventeen years later when it became a member of the European Union’
personally*

Just on a “gut feeling” level I don’t like “I personally” because it sounds redundant.

“I have” sounds nice and straightforward.
