History Help about the Monroe Doctrine?
The Monroe Doctrine
A) allowed Maine and Missouri to enter the Union as states
B) secured Florida from Spain
C) declared American abstention from European affairs
D) made the United States a policing power in the Western Hemisphere
E) settled the nullification crisis favorably for South Carolina
I believe it’s either C or D. Just want to make sure. What do you think?
None of these answer encompass the entire Monroe Doctrine. It is technically both C and D.
The Monroe Doctrine states,
We should stay out of European affairs so C would apply.
It also states that the US will be a policing power in the Western Hemisphere meaning keep hands off the growing new nations developing and growing in South and Central America. So it is actually both. So if you can answer both C and D, that is the entire right answer and the whole doctrine. It is hard if you can only pick one, because (read my link), it states both C and D are the Monroe Doctrine are correct. So I don’t see how you can pick only one when the doctrine is made up of C and D. If you choose one you only choose half the doctrine. Your question does not say pick the best answer either. You cannot because the doctrine is both C and D. So by picking either one you are correct. Consider each answer a half of the actual doctrine. But the way D is worded is your key, that is not how the Monroe Doctrine spells it out, of other countries staying out of new and growing countries affairs and being a “policing power” so there is you key as to why C would be the correct answer and D is not worded wrong but it is like a trick question because the idea is correct. So C would be totally correct the idea, meaning, and wording.
