Non European Union Countries

non european union countries
Can I travel to EU or Schengen countries with a Norway visa?

I’m a non-European citizen. If I have a Norway student visa can I travel to European Union countries? As you might know Norway is not a member of Eu. So should I apply for a new visa of the Eu country I’m gonna go or I can travel there only by having Norway visa?

Based on the Schengen agreement there are no longer border controls between Norway and Sweden.

Norway is not a member of the EU but of the European Economic Area and the Schengen Agreement. This means that Norwegian citizens have the same rights than EU citizens and Norwegian residents may travel within the Schengen zone. You could not travel if you should hold a national type D visa which states valid for “Norge” in the first column. If you however have a Norwegian temporary residence permit (Oppholdstillatelse) you may also use that for travel to the other Schengen countries for 90 days within each 6 months. Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
You may however not travel on a Norwegian residence permit to those EU countries which are not party to the Schengen agreement which are Ireland and the United Kingdom. Those countries which are not fully members of Schengen yet have certain exceptions. Residence permit holders of Norway may transit Cyprus and Romania for 5 days and Bulgaria for 36 hours. ..http://www.klm.com/travel/ch_en/travel_information/travel_planning/travel_clinic/visaform.htm .. Those documents allow the travel to the other Schengen countries, too.
