Roman Catholics: How do you defend the Vatican opposing the UN measure to decriminalize homosexuality?
The measure simply calls on governments around the world to (1) stop throwing homosexuals in jail, or in extreme circumstances (2) stop executing them. The resolution has been signed by every country in the European Union. So instead of aligning themselves with the EU countries on this issue, the Vatican has chosen to line itself up with Iran, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Burundi, Afghanistan, and Sudan and the nearly eighty other countries that punish homosexuality with significant jail time or death.

Horrible.

The only rationale for opposing it given by the Vatican is that it ‘could lead to the acceptance of gay marriage’.
This has absolutely nothing to do with gay marriage. Just not killing and imprisoning people just because of a sexual orientation.
It must be noted that many pro homosexual groups have recently put forward false and slanderous teachings on the position of the Catholic Church toward homosexuality. No Catholic Church teachings exists that homosexuals should be killed or imprisoned. Ask the source for real data instead of the make believe they hold up as truth.
The article you quote does state why the Vatican opposes the measure. It does not mean they support jail and death sentences. That is the slanderous and dishonest misreading I mentioned. Then if someone tries to get up and defend the position, they get some garbage rational like this paper can’t print anything for religion. Liar. They just don’t want to put the other position in print.
Also please note the Catholic Church leadership can put forth the teachings of Jesus, and are not allowed to change His teachings.
A good question might be, why do so many want to tell Catholics what their teachings for their members should be? I want to practice my faith without outsiders telling me what my faith should be. Go live your life and I’ll live mine.
From the Catechism #2358
Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
