Does anyone know how long it takes to apply for an entrance to live in France?

I am U.S citizen but I want to move to France. I don’t want to have the short term or long term visa, instead I would like to go through the process of obtaining legal status to work and live in France. I know it may take some time. Also, does it help if I hold Italian citizenship…Am I consider part of the European Union with that?

If you are an Italian citizen then, as a citizen of the EU, you require no permission, visa,or permit to live and work in France for as long as you like. Just register with the local prefecture of police when you have found lodgings.

It will greatly simplify matters if you have an Italian passport so you don’t have to prove to any French official that you are, in fact, a citizen of italy.
