European Union Visa Member States

How much would this vacation cost?
First things first. I have a passport of an European union member state. I know a lot people would mention visas, … don’t bother.
I was wondering… how much would such trip cost :
I want to go to Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and stay in each city about a week. Taking in consideration the plane tickets (2 way, obviously), transportation between cities, and hotel.
I want to make it the least costly possible. I won’t spend any time in the hotel, and as for the plane – who gives a fuck, really?
I know it’s hard to tell as my description lacks some details. I do not want exact values, but approx values.
I currently live in Eastern Canada ( Quebec )
Flights from Eastern Canada to Amsterdam should be around 800 CAD return, more if you go during July/August, less if you search hard for a bargain (maybe).
3 weeks in Europe on the lowest possible budget will be around 1000 EUR plus the cost of the flight ticket.
You can figure out cost of transport between Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam by looking at http://www.ns.nl .
A bed in a hostel dorm will be around 20 EUR. A lot cheaper than a hotel, because hotel rooms start at 40 EUR per night. In Europe hostels are the way to go if you are a single traveller on a budget. Other options would be couchsurfing (hospitality exchange) or staying with a small tent on camping sites.

Food will be around 10 EUR per day if you shop in supermarkets and buy hot food from snackstalls.
Plan on having around 15 EUR per day for fun things to do, for visiting museums, renting a bicycle, going to the cinema, buying tickets for local public transport, having a drink at a bar, etc. The sky is the limit for this of course, 15 EUR won’t get you very far if you want recreational herbs and the pretty women in the windows in Amsterdam.
You can convert these figures into CAD by using http://www.xe.com .
I can also recommend that you buy a decent guidebook designed for independent travel to the Netherlands, I know the series from Lonely Planet, Let’s Go, Rough Guide and Rick Steves are generally good for independent travel on a budget.
