Questions about filling out my schengen visa application?
I will be needing a student visa to study in Spain from Jan. to May and may also pursue independent travel for a couple of weeks after my studies.
1. Number of entries requested– I may (or may not) be leaving Spain during my 4 months of study. I also may or may not be pursuing indepdendent travel after my studies. Any travel would be between European Union countries. Do I request multiple entries to Spain?
2. I am unsure of the duration of my my stay in Spain and my departure date from Spain. May I write these down longer and later than I may stay even though I may return to the U.S. earlier?

I am having a really hard time filling these out but must do it soon because if I can send it to them soon enough, my study abroad program will take my materials and pick up my visa from the consulate which saves me two round-trips from Chicago which is about 7 hours away from where I live.
1. If you want to travel during your studies you should check “multiple entries” in item 24.
2. You may do so but should also take into consideration that you will need sick insurance coverage for the entire period.
I am not quite sure whether you will need the travel after your studies be covered by the visa. I assume that you are a U.S. citizen and hold a U.S.passport. In this case you would be waived from a visa requirement for travel purposes of up to 90 days within a 180 day period. Just check at the embassy whether you may use that visa waiver for traveling after your studies have been finished.
