what is the effect of EUROPEAN UNION to the GLOBAL TRADE?

i mean.. its advantages and disadvantages to the global trade..

Before EU those countries used to tax each. As they didn’t want that, they formed a customs union that evolved into the present EU, with part of excisioned sovereignity of each of them.
Now they collectively (under the guise of EU) will tax rest of the world. Already they have achieved prosperity as average European (EU ropean) is spared of the multiple inter-taxes. They already have Aid programs to give away money to extermely poor developing countries (mostly in Africa whom they ruled in past; now they are paying back past-fleeced monies). This Aid programs will enable EU goods to flow into third world countries ensuring European jobs, depending upon how they leverage their Aid. After tightening inflation rates, priming economies and improving productivities they are looking around for raw materials around the globe (as they did in the past) for their collective and collaborative manufacturing base. This goes concurrently with looking out for markets for their produced goods/services.
Also another area is looking for investment in emerging manufacturing hubs. If it can be mutually beneficial transfer technologies as using it locally leads to goods of high-cost that may not be competitively priced.
Global trade consequently is shifting base to East and SouthEast Asia generally, with BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) dominating it. The deep external debt of America needs to be corrected and it can only come about out of its increased trade. But American goods becoming less competitive and may continue to be so in the short term, EU is looking for opportunities to fill the gap left by America. This silent tussle is the continuing present trend. Increased trade with Russia as a European nation with an eye on Russia’s energy resources vital for Western & Central Europe. EU desires to quicken the pace of trade with Russia within the constraints set by Russia.
‘South’ (in contrast with ‘North’), Second (?) and Thirld worlds look to EU for its technology and EU knows it. It can trade it against raw material import and finished goods export as stated already, resulting in jobs to Europeans. Much of banking and insurance services of EU will go aggressively marketing into those countries. With technological mid-level countries like China, India, Iran, Indonesia they look for technological co-operation. What it amounts to is low-cost production, an outlet for EU’s technological sales and export of ‘Niche’ products, raw materials.
EU’s potential for agricultural produce, always a sore point in fora like GATT, WTO is looking up for export avenues that only fast-paced economies in South and East can meet. Many such are ‘niche’ products in demand but for the price.
Tourism is another area with the same ‘target’ market.
Perennially EU wants ‘trade’ for survival.
