Immigration policy,Australia help?
Im having a project about the immigration policy back then. Oraly aswell. here is what I wrote. Is this ok?
Australia had a non-white policy that started in 1901 and lasted all the way until 1973.
The white Australian Policy describes Australias prevous approach to immigration which favoured Europeans and did not want anyone with dark skin over in Australia.
The non-white policy was to prevent the country from being overflooded with cheap labour,because many forigneers came to Australia. Many feared that this would reduce the living standards in the country. Prostitutes and criminals were also not allowed to enter the country.In 1880 the trade unions wanted a policy to protect the “White working man”, so by 1890 all states had legislation to preserve the purity of the white australia. The new Commonwealth goverment legislated to exclude all non-white people, this was called: Immigration Restriction Act which started in 1901.
Not bad apart from lack of punctuation and misspellings….
ADDED: You could include some further info about the specific discrimination against Chinese.
(By the way, I’m not Chinese.)
