Term Paper Topic Ideas- European Union?

I’m currently taking a course on the politics of the European Union, and we have to write a 10-20 page term paper on the topic of our choice. I want to start on it now, so that I don’t have to fit everything in at the last minute, and I have a nice, long break coming up for Rosh Hashanah that would be perfect for getting a head start on research. As the same time, I have no idea where to start. So- what would be some good topics to write a paper on? I have a real interest in the politics of the former Communist countries, but at this point I don’t know enough about the EU to think of a good thesis in general.

I took a similar class and we had to write a similar paper. Mine did not come out so well,however I got great ideas from classmates. You could write about Eastern European countries getting in after the fall of the Soviet Union. You could cover the lose of individuality when all the countries are the same. You could write about the advancement of technology and the European Union. You could focus on the control/power that the EU has in Europe vs. around the World. You could cover how it could make the EU a superpower. These are just some ideas. Good luck.
