Britain and the European Union?

Do we the public know enough about the European Union? Are we well enough informed?
Public access to the process and workings of the EU is poor with little understanding by most of where or how the EU organisation is created and how decisions are reached that could effect us all. It appears that Public debate in Britain has been hindered by our own Politicians and media- I wonder why. Personally although I have travelled and lived within Europe, I do not feel European; do you feel the same?

Some people know enough, some just do not care enough to find out.You are right,Politicians do not want you to find out what the EU is about, you may just uncover the truth, which may or may not shock you. There are many organisations one can join, some pro-EU,some anti EU,some for EU reform. Why not join them all, sift through the info, research, and find out for yourself….Plenty of time, and running a computer network helps!!
EU regulation is now our biggest industry (larger than tourism at £67 bn.) according to the government’s Better Regulation Task Force, EU regulations now costs our economy over £100 billion a year. Economists say we lose £80 billion pa by associating with the EU’s inferior economies. Our EU contribution is £10.2 billion (after rebate) but is due to increased. The auditors for the EU have refused to sign off the bloc’s financial accounts, for the 13th year in a row.The auditors say there are weaknesses across the board and complain of neglect and attempts at fraud….. Taxes have doubled since we’ve been in the EU,(and are to rise again with the ratification of the Constitution) leaving little money left in the economy for millions now struggling to make ends meet, even before overwhelming EU immigration takes our jobs.
The cost of our 8,500 new quangos (most set up by Common Purpose, the EU’s local control organisation, to pay huge salaries to their members,) was £167 billion last year according to the Cabinet office. That is the largest single item of government expenditure by far. Since Common Purpose got control of the NHS 20 years ago they’ve employed 800,000 bureaucrats on top of its 400,000 hospital and medical staff, adding an extra £60 billion to the payroll and deliberately wrecking it in the process.
When the Constitution comes into effect on 1.1.09, spending by our EU Government will further explode. The other 90% of EU regulations will then be enforced, creating a Government command economy as in communism; most small businesses won’t be able to comply, and close.
Millions will be out of work. The EU government in Brussels will have to keep raising taxes from a reducing British economy to pay for its own vast bureaucracy here to hold us down, and we will end up in soviet style poverty…
