Since the UK is no longer a democracy do I have to obey the laws or can I just live by my cultures ethics?

You either follow the laws of your land or find another land. If no land matches the laws you wish to follow then you must examine your beliefs. Either they are subject to compromise or they are not. If they are not then you are an enemy to whichever society you have placed yourself within.
