European Union Customs

Why doesn’t England want to be part of the European Union ?
Caricaturally England is considered as the ” bad boy of Europe ” ( translated from French by my self oO : les mauvais élèves d’Europe ) for they reject its drawbacks ( euro etc…) but desires its advantages ( customs-free etc. ).
I’m French and was just wondering. I don’t have prejudices against England I’m just rewriting what has been said.

This is an argument about socialism in general. Are we really all the same in our ideals and practices? Some people chose to save and live within their means and not have harmful habits like smoking and drug addiction. Others do what ever they please and expect the frugal people to work harder to take care of them. I am not saying France is any worse than England, but the people -Government might have those thoughts and that is why they hesitate to throw their apples in the same basket with the rest.
