What are two countries in the EU that have religious problems with each other? Why?

The above answers is incorrect and a commonly held misconception about the problems between Ireland and Britain.

The problems between the Irish and the British are not due to Religion (Protestants against Catholics) in fact the founder of Irish Republicanism was a Protestant himself. The problem was not one of Religion against another but one of Identity, of course more protestants sided with the Crown “Loyalist” as they historically were linked to Britain and Catholics tended to be “Nationalists” who wanted a Republic free from the control of the crown.

Because the vast majority of Catholics were Nationalist and the vast majority of Protestants were Loyalist, lazy journalist who couldn’t be bothered explaining the more complex nature of the problem made it out to be a Religious war.
