I have just started to work in Amsterdam, orininally I am not Dutch. I am from the European Union count?
I have that European card which should be valid accross all european countries, but am not sure, since I have heard that once I live in Amsterdam,I have to have a valid insurance from this country!if you dont have a particular answer, please provide some sources where I could find some information on that issus. Thanks
Yes it counts. In the Member Countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) the free movement of workers is a fundamental right which permits nationals of one EEA country to work in another EEA country on the same conditions as that member state’s own citizens.
During a transitional period of up to 7 years after accession of 10 Member States to the EU on 1 May 2004 and of 2 Member States on 1 January 2007 , certain conditions may be applied that restrict the free movement of workers from, to and between these member states.
These restrictions only concern the freedom of movement for the purpose of taking up a job and they may differ from one member state to another.
If you would like to find out if there are restrictions for you (only if you are citizen of one of the countries newly accepted), I would recomend the following link (official site of the EU). If you fill out the boxes shown there with your citizenship and the country you want to move to, then you can get all information about conditions, restrictions etc.
