England is NOT the United Kingdom. England is one of the countries in the United Kingdom. England is not Great Britain. Great Britain is all the countries of the United Kingdom – Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. Even the European Union Map did not show England as an independent nation in its own right. England was described under “other European Union regions”. What a disgrace! We are not just regions – we are a country and our name is England. It appears that England is gradually being erased from maps and documents and pressure is being applied to erase it from the minds of the English people. We are very rarely referred to as English anymore but British. Politicians appear to be trying to make us ashamed to call ourselves English rather than British and many of them at the top of government seem to denigrate England and the English at any opportunity..i read an article saying there is no such thing as English? the english are british? wondered on ppls thoughts…
Yes. It seems people believe that we are happy to be always grouped as one people, as one culture. And yet its only the people who are actually from the UK who know how different it is to be Scottish, Irish, English or Welsh. I hate being called British, I’m not cross bred. I am English. My family were in the doomsday book, so I don’t like being called British. Even on this site i find it frustrating that for avatars you can get a welsh flag, a Scottish flag and a union jack…where is the English flag? Its so easy for someone from for example north America to say that person is British but how would a Canadian like to be called American? or a American to be called a Canadian? It is very infuriating.
