Is the EU rejecting Turkey because of It’s religious identity?
How come Cyprus but not Turkey, i found this Quote and i think it’s interesting.
“In an 2004 Le Figaro, Ratzinger said that Turkey, which is demographically Muslim but governmentally secular by virtue of its state constitution, should seek its future in an association of Muslim nations rather than the European Union, which Ratzinger has stated has Christian roots. He said Turkey had always been “in permanent contrast to Europe” and that linking it to Europe would be a mistake.”

When European Union was created in 1950 its founders never said that it is going to be a Christian club. Economy was their prime interest, as it is today. I as a Christian think that playing the Christian card is bull, nor I understand why in a secular society, as EU is, a religion would matter when it comes to enlargement. Lately we keep listening the same comments: Turkey should not become an EU member because it is a Muslim country. So what? Does that mean that EU doesn’t believe in its motto anymore: United in diversity?
Turkey belongs to EU. Ratzinger and others like him can go to Vatican and preach as much as they want.
