How can I move to Germany?
I would really like to live in Germany someday, not forever but for a few years. How will I able to do that and how will I manage in terms of jobs, a place to live, health insurance or education if I want to study there? Are there specific requirements for living in Germany? Also if I get a German citizenship, will I be able to live in any European Union countries? How can I get a German citizenship and still keep my American citizenship?
PS I have a German boyfriend.
The U.S.does not require you to give up your American citizenship if you gain other citizenship too…but citizenship in a foreign country is difficult and takes several years of full time residence there. Now…working in a European country is difficult for an American. All citizens of other EU. countries are ahead of Americans for jobs. a work permit is nearly impossible to get. Best chance would be if you could work for an American company who would post you in a branch there, or work for the U.S. govt there. Unless you are independently wealthy, you would not be able to get a residence visa without a job. you can research visa requirements on the site below.
