How can I acquire citizenship with a member state of the EU?

I have no recognized citizenship by descent since Ireland only recognizes to a certain extent. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and I’m twenty-two years old. One of my aspirations in life is to become a citizen within the European Union and live in a nation that is truly free.

I believe that you can achieve citizenship in some EU countries by marriage or after years of legal residency but it varies from country to country.
Most will accept a grandparent’s nationality but you say that your descent from an Irish national probably goes back further than that.
